Luis Chávez | Oklahoma City, OK

Founder & Coach

Luis Chávez discovered his love for running at an early age in small town Oklahoma. Chávez had a successful high school career in Beaver, Oklahoma earning numerous conference titles and podium finishes at state in cross country and track. Chávez earned a scholarship to run at the Division II level at Northwestern Oklahoma State University where he studied Health and Sports Science.

After graduating, Chávez moved to Oklahoma City to pursue a career in the running industry and has been on staff at Red Coyote Running and Fitness since the fall of 2018. His duties include ordering footwear for the two store locations.  

Chávez continues to train at a high level and is passionate about coaching and inspiring others looking to reach their own endurance goals. He founded Oklahoma Project in the spring of 2021 with a goal of connecting with the competitive running community in the Oklahoma City metro area. Chávez has coached 30+ athletes ranging from middle schoolers to marathoners and enjoys seeing athletes break barriers and gain confidence as they train smarter. For the past two summers, he has been a camp counselor for the Nomad Endurance Camp located in Anna, TX.

Chávez resides in Oklahoma with his wife Bailey, daughter Blakeley, and dogs Waverley and Finley.

Luis López | Oklahoma City, OK

Coach

Luis López is a former college basketball player and coach who has had a passion for running his entire life. Growing up in the Oklahoma City area, López joined the Clancy Cross Country Club in the 7th grade and instantly fell in love with endurance training. He ran four years of track and two years of cross country at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. López went on to play college basketball at Oklahoma Christian University where he studied Sports, Wellness, and Recreation Management. He coached basketball at the collegiate level for four years including stops at the University of North Texas and his alma mater, Oklahoma Christian. López earned his master’s degree from UNT in Recreation, Event, and Sport Management.

López started training regularly in the spring of 2020 and has since completed 8 Marathons and 4 Half Marathons. He has a passion for people and is looking forward to working with driven individuals who look to improve their overall health and well-being through distance running.

López resides in Oklahoma City with his wife, Olivia, and mini goldendoodle, Bash.
